The Boulder International Film Festival, February 12 – 15, 2009

CELEBRATING THE BOLD SPIRIT OF INDEPENDENT FILM

4 days of controversy, spice, color, laughter, outrage, adventure, ideas, culture and community

THE BOULDER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, sponsored by the Colorado Film Society, is held annually on President's Day Weekend in Boulder, Colorado, USA, and has developed a reputation as one of the most influential young film festivals in the U.S., with an extraordinary number of new-but-unknown feature films, documentaries and shorts that have gone on from early screenings at BIFF to significant box-office success and multiple Oscar nominations. Over 13,000 filmmakers, national media, special guests and film enthusiasts attended the four-day BIFF 2008.

The Festival has been proud to host and celebrate some of independent film’s most talented players, including legendary Indie filmmakers Michael and Mark Polish “The Polish Brothers” (Twin Falls Idaho, Northfork, The Astronaut Farmer), Golden-Globe nominated actress Maria Bello (A History of Violence, The Cooler, Thank You for Smoking), Academy-Award nominated writer and director Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich, 28 Days, Catch and Release, In Her Shoes), Director Jon Poll (Charlie Bartlett, Producer – The 40-Year Old Virgin) and renowned Hollywood screenwriter John August (Big Fish, Go, The Nines) along with many other independent filmmakers, directors, producers and stars including Academy-Award nominee Eric Roberts, and Patrick Warburton [Seinfeld]).

On behalf of the Boulder City Council and staff,  I 'm  happy to welcome you to one of the Boulder's crown jewel events: The Boulder International Film Festival.

The Boulder International Film Festival is a particularly special event because it is not only a celebration of the joy and power of film, but more importantly, a celebration of community. The coming together of Boulder's rapidly growing film industry and its numerous film-arts organizations, along with  hundreds of talented volunteers all provide us with this great, annual contribution to the power of art to make a difference in people's lives. So please absorb as much of the festival as you can!

I encourage and applaud the organizers and sponsors of this event for their efforts to bring the best in international filmmaking to Boulder. From the beginning, you have demonstrated an unwavering determination to showcase films about diversity, human rights and freedom of expression, and the City of Boulder is proud to have been your partner.

Congratulations and keep up the great work.
